Friday Favorites - Eye on the Core
When was the last time you gave your core the attention it deserves? I don’t mean crunches at the end of your workout or doing the 8-minutes abs video. What I’m referring to is a complete and comprehensive workout that is designed to target your core.
Your core consists of much more than just your abs! The Transverse Abdominis, External Obliques, Internal Obliques, Rectus Abdominis and Erector Spinae all make up your core! (Source: About.com) Working on your core will improve your strength, posture and limit back pain. Your core is very important, it’s time that you stopped neglecting it.
The Pilates Mat Workout strengthens, lengthens, and tones the entire body. Certified pilates instructor Linda Farrell’s precise cueing and attention to detail will give you the results you are looking for: long, lean muscles and a flatter abdomen.
I’ve started incorporating Pilates into my workout with surprising ease. Viewing the videos and workingout with them is a great exercise by itself. I like to take some of the positions I’ve learned from Pilates and apply it to my regular workout, usually during my "abs" time. I’m still working my abs in my workouts, but now I also improve my posture and balance!
