Yesterday in class I realized, blissfully and proudly, that more than half my class was bi-weekly regulars who have stayed dedicated to their Tuesday and Saturday classes since June — almost 6 months to the day! And in 6 months, you can definitely achieve strength, memorization of poses and see true changes in your body and mind. One of my students from the 6 month club came up to me and commented proudly how much stronger she’s become. When she started with me, muscles quaked, hips were tight and arms soft. Now she’s strong, confident and nailing chaturanga dandasana like a pro! Another student mentioned how, over the icy weekend we had in New York, she could have truly succumbed to a devastating fall and realized that when she broke her fall she found herself in plank pose! Glad that she’s fine, but pretty amazing realization and showcasing of your bodies ability to protect yourself when you’re strong and centered! For a true strengthening and traditional yoga practice that develops fierceness, I’ve always loved an ashtanga practice, and I particularly like the Primary Series Video by master Richard Freeman.
