Giving with a Purpose

This Saturday was the first real attempt at doing some holiday shopping not from my computer — actually venturing into stores. If you think New York City is generally crazy, chaotic and overpopulated, try shopping in a name brand store 2 Saturdays before Christmas. Then once home, weary and frustrated, I found in my mailbox, the answer — The Y Catalog! 10% of what you spend goes to charities really making a difference in the world. Buy a Jade Yoga mat through Y and that 10% goes to Supporting Trees for the Future. Buy your spiritual tunes though Y and those proceeds will go to supporting the American Indian Relief Council.

Seva in Sanskrit, actually means "string" but it is used to describe acts of selfless giving, service through compassion. Go online and see if there’s a cause at the "Y" that speaks to you and shop accordingly. Giving will feel good.
