Burn 720 Calories in 50 Minutes - Killer Winter Cardio Workout
Cardio workouts are a great way to stay in shape, but when the snow starts to fall and the temperature drops how will the cold weather affect your cardio workout routine? When the weather permits, I love to run outdoors. It’s one of my favorite cardio exercises because I can clear my mind, watch the great scenery (NYC) and get a killer workout, but when it’s too cold to run outdoors what should I do? Below is my new winter cardio program. I find it to be very effective and fun! It’s 50 minutes total, 10 minutes of jump rope, 20 minutes of running and 20 minutes of biking - 720 calories burned!
The Killer Winter Cardio Workout
1) Jump Rope (10 Minutes)

| Time (minutes) | Calories Burned |
| 10 | 100 |
Jump Rope is one of the best cardiovascular workouts ever! I recently started to jump rope and it’s great - a total body workout! Burn 100 calories in 10 minutes by jumping rope.
2) Run/Sprints (18 minutes of running, 2 minutes of sprinting)
| Time (minutes) | Calories Burned |
| 20 | 336 |
I would rather run outside, but when I can’t, a treadmill always works. I usually don’t run as long if I use a treadmill because I get bored. Adding sprints to a regular run will spice it up. If I ran for 18 minutes at 8 mph and sprinted at 12 mph for 2 minutes, I would burn about 336 calories! How many calories would you burn? Use this calorie calculator to find out.
3) Stationary Bike (20 minutes)
| Time (minutes) | Calories Burned |
| 20 | 285 |
Biking is a good exercise for your legs and surprisingly your arms and core, because you must keep your upper body in position. After jumping rope and running, biking is a great way to finish your winter cardio workout. Biking, at 12-14 mph, for 20 minutes will burn about 285 calories.
Total it up
So far I have jumped rope for 10 minutes, ran/sprinted for 20 minutes, biked for 20 minutes and burned about 720 calories!
Cool Down
Once you’ve finished your killer winter cardio workout, it’s time to cool down and stretch. Yoga and Pilates are my favorites. I like these workouts because they will lower your heart rate, stretch your muscles and make your feel excellent! Learn a new yoga or Pilates workout with our yoga videos and Pilates videos.
Now you know my winter cardio secret, let me know if it works for you!

Jumping rope for 10 minutes straight would give the average 30 year old a hert attack. I am in shape and I can barely do a solid minute.
10 minutes of jumping would require several breaks.. unless your 8 years old then apparently you can jump rope for hours
cardio is always good for a healthy heart, keep you warm too
Hunter,
Yes, jumping rope is a real challenge, that’s why you can burn 100 calories in 10 minutes!
10 minutes straight is something to shoot for, if you can only jump rope for 2 minutes (1 minute or seven 30 seconds), then do that and work your way up. Always respect your body and take breaks when needed!
Actually,It’s not as difficult as it seems.
Building up the length of time you spend rope jumping is the key.Aim for 5 mins a day and eventually 10 mins, and so on.
I started a few months ago and now I can jump rope for an hour straight, with small breaks for drinking water.
Try to distract yourself from the intensity of jumping by listening to music or watching T.V. Land on the balls of your feet each time you jump.
Hope that helps :]
Helen,
Good point. The key is to start for a short period of time and build up. Also, finding a good jump rope is important.
