beYOU.tv Radio - Weight Loss and Life Transformation with Barry Jay
Taking control of your health and loosing weight can change more than just your pant size. It can change your life. Often, evaluating and changing eating and workout habits can cause you to examine other unhealthy patterns in your life as well.
This week we talked with Barry Jay of Barry’s Bootcamp fame. With thousands of people coming through the doors for his hard core month long Academy Training program, Barry has seen more than just bodies change. “They have a whole new outlook on life and motivation level when they complete the program,” adds Barry.
He also shares some of his own partying and addictive habits that were not serving his best interests and how a good work out and faith in something greater helps keep him centered.

Listener Questions
Michael from Chicago asked, “I have bad knees and have trouble running at an incline. What are some other things I can do instead?”
First starters Michael, knowledge is power. See a doctor to determine what your knee troubles stem from to see if you can treat it. As for alternate exercises, sit against a wall with your shoulders and back pressed against the wall with your knees bent at a 90 degree angel as if you are sitting in a chair, only, with out the chair. Start off with 3 sets at about 30 seconds at a time. Build up to a minute and a time and see how long you can go from there.
But before you go anywhere, go see your doctor!
Greg from New York asked, “Aside from squatting and running, what are the best weight training and cardio workouts?”
Well Greg, for cardio we tend to like rowing, spinning or jump roping. They burn tuns of calories, work more than one muscle group at a time, and are often a little more engaging than a flat 30 minute run on a treadmill.
As for weights, think low and high. 100s are a great way to really burn your muscles out. Grab a much lighter weight than you are use to and do one set — of 100.
Another great muscle builder a progressive approach. Start with a 20 lb. weight and do as many reps as you can. Increasing your weight each set by 5 lb. to you get to the heaviest weight you can lift, even if you can only do one rep for that set.

Swimming did wonders for my girlfriend. Helped her get in shape in under a month with 4-5hours of swimming/week.
