Video Review: Green by Design TV -- Solar Paneling and Organic Clothing EpisodeAs beYOUmag.com’s resident Eco-Living Expert, I was thrilled to see that we now carry Green by Design TV. All of their topics are timely and informative, but I want to give you a feel for what Connie and Greg Mattison bring to the green table. First and foremost, Connie, Greg and their dog Guiness are approachable, real, and not preachy. I like that they dub themselves “newly green” versus coming off as major “treehuggers…” (Not the site, which we love, but the extremists…) Connie and Greg also said something that always resonates with me which is the “impact of choice”, realizing and helping viewers to actualize that small choices, done over time, make a big difference in the end.

The solar paneling and organic clothing segment was particularly interesting. The segment was right on about how to install a solar panel for a home or small office. They showcased a small business owner and really took you step-by-step on how one would undertake such a venture and the real economic advantages. The Mattison’s explained state subsidies and rebate programs and just made the process attractive — energy efficient changes can translate into dollars in the pocket for business and homeowners. The downside: the Mattison’s are New Jersey based, and this piece was New Jersey centric — even though New Jersey is leading the nation in making going green accessible — this doesn’t speak to a national audience. You can, however, research similar programs/info for your state at: DSIRE: The Database of StateRenewable Energy.

I am passionate about organic clothing and try to purchase clothing that was not made in certain countries and made from organic cotton or other sustainable materials. Connie, who hosted this short piece within the segment, does define succinctly why we should go organic in our clothing. Simply put, pesticides used on non-organic crops go right into the fiber that’s directly on the skin. While the clothing pieces she selected weren’t my style — loose fitting t-shirts, the bottom line is, she gives a clear and compelling explanation of why we should wear organic clothing. Next week, I’ll bring you even more options when I share some of my particular favorite organic clothing lines.

All in all, I’m so glad Connie and Greg are on the scene providing us with useful information on how to make smart, green choices in our lives. I welcome them to beYOU.tv.
