Sail from L.A. to Hawaii on Junk
We all know we produce too much junk and some of it ends up in our oceans. The Algalita Marine Research Foundation is raising awareness about our garbage and where it ends up in a big way. According to the L.A. Times, “a raft made of 15,000 plastic bottles, a repurposed old Cessna 310 airplane, and other odds and ends — set sail from Long Beach today to make its 6-week trip to Hawaii.”
Follow the journey of Junk at The Junk Blog. Before you discard your next plastic item, take a moment to think where it might end up and if you see some litter please pick it up.

Glad you wrote on this. Just heard about it on current.tv; also makes me think of the piece on the Story of Stuff…
Thanks, Greg!
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your comment. I was reminded about the Story of Stuff article too.
The more I think about this, the more extreme it seems. Sailing to Hawaii, in a real sailboat, is probably challenging. Sailing there on a boat made of junk is incredible!
