Yoga without BordersYes. Yoga can be anywhere. Even at the border lines of the United States and Mexico. Sure, a rusty fence can represent cultural, political and societal differences but The Border Meetup Group rolls out their yoga mats to promote a special kind of cross border understanding and friendship called “yoga without borders.” These yoga enthusiasts meet on both sides of the wall between Tijuana, Mexico, and San Diego to join for a moment to meditate together with love and peace as the main emphasis of their lesson.

Tijuana beach is a common meeting spot for families who come to chat with loved ones through the fence. The Border Meetup Group has arranged several events in which 20 to 300 people from both sides of the border have met through the fence on the beach or at Friendship Park at the San Diego and Tijuana border.

When the bi-national yoga classes are over and mats are rolled, the group exchanges hugs through the fence bars and plan to meet again soon. Proving that Yoga can be more than just for health and fitness; it can be a language for a peaceful art and union between borders.
