Thai Yoga MassageWhile running competitively on a track team for five years I am guilty of being terrible at stretching, hating it, and even skipping it. I always figured I didn’t need it, or just didn’t want to do it, because I didn’t stretch when I was a competitive runner, I now feel the pain in my lower back.

Thai Yoga Massage has come to mind as a way to reduce lower back pain. It involves getting a massage that focuses on the therapeutic pressures points, while twisting your body and working your muscles in almost a Karma Sutra sort of way.

Although, for this, you stay fully dressed working with a massage therapist and you are told to bring comfortable clothing. This is a type of yoga and massage mix, and it is an active affair. No oil is applied; it would get too messy, since this is sort of like a massage workout.

Imagine a person standing on your back and pulling your bottom arm and top leg behind you in an upward motion and you enjoying it? You will be stretched in ways you might have never thought possible.

Since there is so much movement, Thai Yoga Massages are done on a padded mat on the floor. It involves working with a massage therapist, who basically does the work for you, as you lay or get in the suggested pose and position. The therapist moves your body while using theirs as a weight, and uses their hands, legs, feet, and knees, as you are moved in to a series of poses and stretches that are yoga inspired. It is a stimulating way to be active while also feeling relaxed as your limbs are challenged.

Thai Yoga Massage is great for joint mobilization, muscle compression, and acupressure, which can also boost the immune system.

Among the breathing exercises and the sequence of techniques of stretching the ligaments and tendons, you can tone your muscles. Also the stretches and poses can improve your flexibility and alignment and improve your posture.

The stretches help relieve stress, improves circulation, flexibility and your range of motion. Thai Yoga Massage isn’t only for the body it is also meant for the mind.

I recently experienced my first basic massage, I am still a beginner at this massage thing, but I have a friend who is a massage therapist who gives me tips, but Thai Yoga Massage is defiantly different than just laying there and getting kneaded. It does seem like something that couples could do to each other, to perhaps add a spark to their relationship. A new way to cuddle?

There is also a book you can pick up called: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work.

On the next rainy day, I’ll have to try a Thai Yoga Massage on my boyfriend.
