Back in early 2008, both my colleague Andrea Page, our FitMom and parenting expert, and myself, wrote on the issues surrounding Bisphenol-A, commonly known as BPAs, sinisterly known as bad plastics. Andrea’s article focused on how BPAs might impact mothers in feeding and food prep of their young, and mine on the the hazards of all these plastic water bottles. Recently the FDA has concluded that BPA is now safe (even though they will continue to monitor the BPA situation), but the outside authorities once again found that the FDA should not be expressing that this is the case. It’s no secret that olive oil is high in monounsaturated fat content and is a cornucopia of antioxidant substances. For these reasons, the Mediterranean diet staple has become extremely popular in cooking circles. What may be a secret, however is that olive oil has a number of uses beyond merely eating healthily.
No More Earaches
Two to four drops of warm olive oil can soothe an aching ear. Take caution not to get the olive oil too hot or you may severely burn yourself. (more…)
Before you realized it was a style of Hatha Yoga, you might have heard of Kripalu as it is also one of the most well-renowned centers for yoga and health in the country located in the grand Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts. The Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health was started in 1966 when Yogi Amrit Desai founded the Yoga Society of Pennsylvania, which was established to teach yoga classes and train teachers. It later evolved into the nonprofit wing that operates as the Kripalu Center today. For an in-depth interview of Yogi Amrit Desai, please view the piece in the wonderful spiritual magazine What is Enlightenment? (WIE) entitled “Yoga, Ego and Purification” by WIE’s founder Andrew Cohen. (more…)
If you are like me, one of your biggest fears is getting older. I know that once I reach a certain age, I won’t be able to compete in the sports I compete in, lift weights as heavily or run as fast. But it’s inevitable; at some point I will reach my golden years and my days of heavy lifting, full contact fighting, Latin dancing and intense workouts will be nothing more than stories I tell to my grandchildren. Thanks to this article on buzzle.com, I don’t have to feel old as I age. They listed several tips for retaining a healthful youthful body as you age. (more…)
Many of you might think I’m on a sexual tear or afflicted with spring fever after writing on the Orgasmic Diet and now how yoga can benefit your sex life, but the book on the market, Better Sex Through Yoga by Jacquie Noelle really got me thinking seriously about the topic, and after Googling the phrase, “better sex through yoga” I’m not the only one thinking about it. As far as my experience has taught me regarding acupuncture’s efficacy in the treatment of weight loss, the jury is still out. This may come as a disappointment to those who are on a quest for the next best thing in weight loss and were hoping acupuncture was the answer. It can, however, help curve your cravings, which can lead to a healthier diet. (more…)

Folks, it’s Super Tuesday, 24 states vote today, and it’s a good chance that you live in one of them. I know with all the talk of delegates, super delegates and the actual election not until November, you might think - why bother. Please don’t!
This is an opportunity to elect your nominee who gets put on the ballot. The Washington Post has done a great interactive map that breaks it down for you, state-by-state. Also if you want to voice your opinion or hear others, go to YouTube for a great slice of what America is feeling and hoping for. Having lived as a young woman through the Regan and Bush dynasties, I don’t remember this level of excitement about a candidate (despite your politics) until President Clinton came on to the scene. All I know is I’m ready for America to be the country it was meant to be and I’m ready for a change.
If you want to volunteer or get directly involved with your candidate of choice, go to either their individual websites or to GETOUTTHEVOTE.ORG to be involved in getting people to the polls of any candidate! Can’t complain if you don’t get out there. Let’s break the records at the polls at what already is a historic race.
Namaste,
Michelle
Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling flat, like you have no energy? Something is off, you’ve rested all night, but you can’t place your finger on it. Could your qi, or energy, be imbalanced? Qigong can help you balance and cultivate your qi (energy) to put that spring back in your step - naturally.
Benefits Of Qigong
Reduce Stress - The natural, slow movements of Qigong help to lower stress by reducing respiratory and heart rate.
Longevity - Qigong promotes longevity by improving blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney function and bone density. Qigong also has many anti-aging benefits.
Clear Skin - Qigong helps to eliminate toxins, this helps to improve the skin.
Stimulate The Immune System - With just three hours per week, Qigong can stimulate your immune system. A study from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne found that adults who practiced Qigong three hours per week developed more antibodies after receiving flu shots than those who didn’t practice Qigong.

Please welcome Kristin Misik to the beYOU.tv blog. She is a licensed acupuncturist and will be a featured contributor from time to time. As a bit of a non believer (and someone who also happens to be afraid of needles), I was a bit skeptical going into my first appoint with her to treat some stomach ailment. But after noticing immediate results, I became such an advocate that it was something I felt I had to share with all of you. She also specializes in treating stress, pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia and symptoms related to those conditions. To find out more, please visit www.kristinlac.com/.

Tune Your Dial With Acupuncture
Explaining the elusive and seemingly esoteric mechanisms of acupuncture is no easy task for today’s acupuncturist. The most common question people ask is "how does it work?" I am constantly challenged to come up with a wonderful analogy that the masses can not only understand, but also believe. After 8 years, I think I have come up with an explanation many can relate to. Even if I fail at convincing you there are forces at work in the body which science can’t prove or disprove, an acupuncture treatment is usually convincing enough.
As a practitioner, I easily accept the existence of qi in the same way I accept the existence of love. I don’t need to see it to believe it. But for the majority of people walking through my door this concept is not so apparent.
